Buildings of special architectural or historic interest, that are considered to be of national importance, are listed by Historic England. Sevenoaks District has over 1,650 buildings recorded in the National Heritage List for England.
Being Listed gives a building legal protection against demolition or alterations, which might adversely affect its character or significance.
Works to a Listed Building usually requires Listed Building Consent. The whole of a Listed Building is covered, not just the front elevation and the parts set out in the listing description.
