Swanley’s Sunday market trial has been extended following a promising start and positive feedback from customers.
The market, operated by Sevenoaks District Council, is located in the High Street by the Shopping Centre, and was run on a trial basis from April.
Currently, the market includes a mix of stall holders, including those selling local food and drink, farmers’ market produce and traditional market goods.
During August and September, the Council asked the community for their views on the market.
Nearly 700 people took part and of those who has visited the market, 55% said they wanted it to continue.
Following this feedback and comments from traders, the Council has decided to extend the trial until the end of March 2023.
Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Greener, Cllr Margot McArthur, says: “Speaking with residents, market traders and local businesses, we have the impression the Sunday Market is a welcome addition to the town, helping to bring in new business to the area.
“We will use the extension to bring in more local craft producers and opportunities for young entrepreneurial traders to broaden the appeal to shoppers.”
“The extension also means the market will be available during the busy festive period, benefitting shoppers and the wider economy.”
Bray Associates is running the market on the Council’s behalf. The company also run the Wednesday market in the town.
