Sevenoaks District Council is providing free skateboarding lessons in Swanley for boys and girls aged seven to 16 years old.
The lessons will be led by qualified instructors from Samsara Sport and can help beginners skateboard for the first time as well as supporting existing skaters to improve their skills.
All equipment will be provided.
Sessions are taking place on certain Thursdays from 6 June 2024 during afternoons and evenings.
Places are limited and must be booked in advance at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/swanleyskating.
Cllr Lesley Dyball, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, says: “We know the summer can be an expensive time for families so we’re really pleased to be providing these free lessons. Skateboarding is a great way for young people to improve and develop their physical and social skills while at the same time having a lot of fun.”
Ryan Hayman, Chief Executive Officer at Swanley Town Council, adds: “I am delighted that we can bring free skateboarding lessons to Swanley and provide an opportunity for young boys and girls to discover the joy of skateboarding. It's more than just a sport; it's a creative outlet that fosters self-expression, builds resilience, and teaches valuable lessons in perseverance. By offering these lessons, we aim to empower the youth, promote active lifestyles, and create a supportive community that embraces diversity and inclusivity.”
The lessons are being jointly funded by Sevenoaks District Council and Swanley Town Council.
