‘Run, walk or push against dementia’ was another huge success this year with over 300 people raising money for local dementia services.
Residents from all over the District and beyond joined The Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community on Sunday 19 May 2024 to take part in either a 3, 5 or 10k courses in the beautiful Knole Park.
Sevenoaks District Council worked in partnership with the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community to organise the event which saw residents running the course alongside their families, with their dogs and even pushing youngsters along in pushchairs.
Elaine Murray, who co-founded and chairs the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community Charity, says: “We had another brilliant event this year. The sun was shining, and everyone was in good spirits. Thank you to all the volunteers and the Council for helping us put on the race.
“All of the money raised goes to local projects such as running six dementia friendly cafés a month, one singing group, wellbeing days and pop-up Forget-me-not Cafés for Sevenoaks Hospital patients. Those who took part had a great day and best of all, they have raised funds to support people living with memory issues in our community.”
Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet member for People and People, Cllr Lesley Dyball adds: “Sadly, dementia is likely to affect one in three of us in one way or another, but the money raised by this event will help people living with the condition and their carers. Everyone who took part should be very proud of what they achieved.”
