Sevenoaks District Council has brought an unlicensed waste carrier to justice following a Council investigation.
Gioni Bolea from Plumstead was prosecuted at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13 August 2024 after pleading guilty to failing to have a Scrap Metal Licence, an offence contrary to Section 1 of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. He was fined £670 in total.
The Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team encountered Mr Bolea’s van and its contents, which led to an investigation into a vehicle transporting scrap metal in the district.
Cllr Irene Roy, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Green says: “This latest prosecution sends out a strong message to anyone thinking about illegally transporting waste.
“The Council has a significant number of further pending prosecutions, and these robust actions will seek to punish those responsible for environmental crimes in our community.”
To check if a waste removal service has a license, call the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506 and ask for a free instant Waste Carrier Validation Check.
