Silver Sunday is back and bigger than ever with dozens of local events for older people, most of which are free.
Silver Sunday was originally set up to tackle loneliness, but in recent years it has become a national campaign to celebrate the contribution of older people while encouraging social activity.
Promoted locally by Sevenoaks District Council, and running from October to December 2024, residents can take part in variety of activities and events.
This year, there are free Tai Chi classes, tea dances, leisure centre health and wellbeing days, a ‘Silver Fair’, volunteer opportunities, health checks and Christmas parties!
There are other regular events that the Council is promoting such as exercise classes, Steps to Wellbeing social walks, singing groups, games clubs and many more.
Sevenoaks District Council's Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball, says:
“Our theme of this year’s Silver Sunday is to show that the Sevenoaks District is a great place to age well, and these events are a really positive way to celebrate older people whilst encouraging them to learn new skills and meet others.
“Silver Sunday is celebrated on one day, but we have over three months’ worth of free or low-cost activities for older people. There’s something for all abilities and interests!
“If you have a relative or friend who would enjoy more social interaction, encourage them to come along to a Silver Sunday event.”
