Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club has secured £75,000 of funding from Sevenoaks District Council toward solar panels, helping to cut the Club’s carbon footprint.
Once installed, the panels will save the Club over £24,000 a year in energy bills, allowing it to invest in more community activities, as well as a reduction of 33 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The money has been awarded from funding raised by the Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a charge collected from home builders on new developments in the District.
The Club have also been granted a further £20,000 from the West Kent Rural Grant scheme for this project and have secured additional funding towards it from Sevenoaks Town Council, TARMAC, Sport England and its own fundraising events.
Cllr Julia Thornton, Sevenoaks District Council Cabinet Member for Development and Conservation, says:
“We are committed to supporting the District to reduce its carbon footprint, as well as projects that support the health and wellbeing of our residents.
“So we are delighted to be able to provide this substantial grant to Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club to reduce its carbon footprint and energy running costs.
“The Club is an important part of the community. It hosts events and social gatherings and welcomes players of all abilities. The solar panels will ensure the Club can continue with its amazing work for many years to come.”
