The Sevenoaks Sea Cadet unit joined Sevenoaks District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Laurence Ball, to celebrate Commonwealth Day (Monday 10 March 2025).
The day is an international celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations marked by a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey in London.
Hosted outside Sevenoaks District Council’s offices, the Commonwealth flag was raised at 10am with prayers led by Reverend Dorothy McGarvey.
Other guests included Deputy Lieutenant, Lord Robert Sackville West, and Sevenoaks Town Council Mayor, Cllr Libby Ancrum.
Cllr Laurence Ball, says: “Commonwealth Day is about celebrating the unity and inclusivity of the Commonwealth and I was delighted to be part of an event that is taking place across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
“The focus of this year’s day is ‘Together We Thrive’. The theme highlights how all 56 member countries are united by shared values enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter.
“Rooted in the principles of family, unity and peace, the theme highlights the importance of fostering strong and connected communities that support and empower their members”.
